Our Training Philosophy
At Pacific Spirit Martial Arts, we believe that training is not just about learning self-defence techniques or improving physical physical fitness. Our philosophy is based on the idea that martial arts training is a holistic approach to personal development, encompassing the body, mind and spirit. Our goal is to help our students become better versions of themselves, both on and off the mat.To achieve this, we focus on three key principles:1. Discipline: We believe that discipline is essential for success in any endeavor. In our school, we instill discipline in our students by emphasizing the importance of consistency, focus, and hard work. We encourage our students to set specific goals and work towards them with dedication and persistence. Through this process, they develop a strong work ethic and a sense of personal responsibility.2. Respect: Respect is a core value in martial arts, and we emphasize it in every aspect of our training. We teach our students to respect themselves, their peers, their instructors and the art itself. This means showing humility, listening attentively, and treating others with kindness and consideration. By practicing respect, our students develop strong interpersonal skills and a sense of community.3. Continuous Improvement: Our school is committed to continuous improvement, both as individuals and as a community. We encourage our students to embrace challenges, to learn from their mistakes and to strive for constant progress. This means pushing themselves to reach new levels of skill and knowledge, while also supporting and encouraging their peers. By embracing continuous improvement, our students develop a growth mindset and a sense of personal achievement.Pacific Spirit Martial Arts training philosophy is designed to help our students develop not just physical strength and martial arts skills, but also mental toughness, self-confidence and a sense of purpose. Through our approach we aim to create not just skilled martial artists, but also compassionate, respectful and disciplined individuals who are empowered to succeed in all areas of their lives.
Our Families Say It Best
"Master David is extremely committed to the program he runs and the group of students who participate. His lifelong passion for the craft of Taekwondo is clear to see, but more importantly, his approach to guiding his students in the tenets of Taekwondo. His positive energy creates a welcoming and fun atmosphere, but at the same time he engenders respect, courtesy, and appropriate discipline."
-Nick G." My two children have been students of Master David since 2017, and have both flourished, physically and mentally, under his guidance. Master David has an impeccable way with his students. He makes class really fun, while also commanding respect, discipline, and progression."
-Andrea M.With his expert teaching and infinite patience, Master David has instilled a sense of purpose, discipline, and self-confidence into our kids that I know will serve them well in their futures. We have been very pleased to see how much the program has grown and flourished over the years as a result of the Master's hard work, perseverance, dedication to his students, and strong desire to be a positive presence in our local community."
-Hector H."Having been in law enforcement for many years, I have dealt with many types of individuals over the years and I could instantly see that Master David was a true professional with his art but more importantly, could connect with my son and had incredible interpersonal skills. To put it simply, Master David is one of the most honest and caring individuals I know. He treats his students as part of his own family and can relate and connect with them on every level. One of the things I admire most about Master David is his enthusiasm for Taekwondo and his ability to work so well with each and every student."
